In Memoriam
It is with great regret we announce the death of Ruth Waldman on July 9, 2009. Ruth was a charter member of Delta Upsilon Chapter and consistently participated in chapter activities over the years. Her most recent position was vice president and program chair for 2007 to 2008. Last December she was awarded the Chapter Lifetime Achievement award, because she exemplified the Sigma Theta Tau ideals of scholarship and service Last fall the chapter donated a 4”x8” engraved paver to be installed in the Nancy Dickenson-Hazard Leadership Celebration Garden at honor society headquarters in Indianapolis in Ruth’s honor. Ruth was the consummate nurse and teacher, loved by students and faculty colleagues.
Ruth began teaching at the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing in 1974 as a medical-surgical instructor. Her specialty was oncology nursing. She retired from URI in 2004 as Associate Dean. She served on the Board of Visiting Nurses Services of Washington County and South County Hospital. Each year since 2000 she took nursing students to the Dominican Republic to provide health care to the poor.
Ruth will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
