Brad St. Martin
University of Rhode Island

Bradford Michael St. Martin was born and raised in the suburbs of Lincoln, RI.  While growing up in Lincoln the majority of his time was spent in the woods, fishing and hiking.  If not seeking adventure in the great outdoors, Brad was on the baseball field or basketball courts.  Brad was always seeking competition and searching for adventure.

In 2001 Brad graduated from Lincoln High School and decided to accept an offer to play baseball, while pursuing a career in Journalism at Saint Michael’s College.  During the summer vacation months Brad would return to Rhode Island and work at Butler Hospital, a psychiatric facility in Providence, Rhode Island.  While working hands on with patients and developing a true understanding of the nursing process, he developed a love for direct patient care.  It was this love that prompted Brad to leave his collegiate baseball career and pursue a career in Nursing.

In 2003 Brad enrolled in the College of Nursing at the University of Rhode Island.  During enrollment Brad was awarded the Lucy C. Ayers scholarship and is a Dean’s List student.  In his senior year, Brad was given the opportunity to participate in a nursing exchange program with students from Denmark.  Studying senior medical-surgical nursing in an intensive care unit in Aarhus, Denmark was a unique and trying experience with many obstacles and barriers.  This experience provided Brad with an increased knowledge of medical-surgical nursing, as well as a perspective of a universal health care system and vast cultural experience.

During the fall semester of 2006 Brad was inducted into Delta Upsilon Chapter at-Large of Sigma Theta Tau International.  After graduation Brad would like to pursue a career as a medical-surgical nurse with a progression into intensive care nursing.  Brad enjoys the high level of acuity and skill needed for intensive care nursing.  Brad takes each day as it comes, optimistic of what the future might bring.  A graduate degree is most likely in the future, however, currently he looks forward to the opportunity of working hands on with patients in a hospital setting.
